Golden QuillInsurance Practice

Independent insurance advice

Cover that fits the life you actually live.

Golden Quill is a small independent practice. We read the wording, compare the market, and explain in plain English what your policy will and will not do — before you sign it.

No obligation, and no cover placed without your say-so.

Written for the moment it matters A policy is only worth the day you need to use it. Every recommendation we make is checked against the claim you might one day have to file.

What we place

Four kinds of cover, arranged around one household

Most people come to us for one policy and leave with the rest tidied up. Here is the range we work across.

Home & contents

Buildings, belongings and the awkward bits in between — sheds, home offices, the bike in the hallway.

  • Rebuild-cost sense checks
  • Accidental damage options
  • Landlord and tenant variants

Motor

Everyday cars, second vehicles and the classic that only leaves the garage when the weather behaves.

  • Named-driver structuring
  • Mileage and usage review
  • Excess trade-off explained

Life & income

Term life, critical illness and income protection sized to the mortgage, the childcare and the gap in sick pay.

  • Trust arrangements discussed
  • Waiting periods compared
  • Health disclosures handled

Small business

For sole traders and small teams: liability, tools, stock and the cover a client contract insists on.

  • Public and employers' liability
  • Professional indemnity
  • Contract wording checks

How it works

Three steps, and you keep the final word at each one

Nothing is bought on your behalf and nothing is renewed quietly. Here is the whole arrangement.

A proper conversation

We ask about the house, the vehicles, the work and the people who depend on your income. Twenty unhurried minutes usually covers it.

A shortlist you can read

You get two or three options side by side, with the exclusions written out in ordinary words and our reasoning for each recommendation.

Someone to call later

When circumstances change or a claim comes up, you speak to the same practice that arranged the policy — not a queue.

The practice

Independent, deliberately small, and easy to reach

Golden Quill was set up on a simple idea: insurance goes wrong at the wording, not the price. So we spend our time on the wording. Being independent means we are free to recommend the insurer that suits your circumstances, and free to tell you when your existing cover is already the right one.

  • Exclusions are shown to you before the premium is.
  • How we are paid is explained at the first meeting, in writing.
  • Renewals are re-quoted, never rolled over on autopilot.
  • If a claim is contested, we help you put the case together.

Annual policy review

Already insured? Bring the paperwork anyway.

Cover drifts. A loft conversion, a new driver on the licence, a business that outgrew its liability limit — each one quietly changes what your policy is worth. Our review reads your current schedules against your current life and tells you, plainly, where the gaps and the overlaps are.

You are under no obligation to move anything. Plenty of reviews end with us confirming that what you already hold is sound.

Before you get in touch

The questions we are asked most

Does using an agent cost more than going direct?
Not as a rule. We place business through the same insurers you would approach yourself, and several of our schemes are only available through intermediaries. Whatever we are paid on a policy is set out for you before you commit to it.
Can you take over a policy I bought elsewhere?
In most cases yes, either at renewal or mid-term. Send us the schedule you already hold and we will tell you whether moving it is worth the administration — sometimes it plainly is not, and we will say so.
What happens if I need to make a claim?
You tell us first. We confirm which section of the policy applies, help you gather what the insurer will ask for, and stay on the file until it is settled. If a claim is declined and we think that is wrong, we help you challenge it.
What does “independent” actually mean here?
We are not tied to a single insurer or a restricted panel, so no product reaches your shortlist because we are obliged to sell it. It also means we are free to recommend doing nothing when nothing needs doing.

Tell us what needs covering

A few lines is enough to start. We will come back with the questions we need answered and an idea of the options available to you.

  • One reply from a person, not an automated series of emails.
  • We only ask for personal details once there is something worth quoting.
  • Nothing is placed, changed or cancelled without your written go-ahead.

We use what you send here only to answer your enquiry.
